Welcome to my unbiased and detailed Singer Simple 2263 reviews. Honestly, this sewing unit reminds me that sewing machines with a front-loading bobbin shouldn’t be labelled as “simple”.
I don’t like front-loading bobbins and prefer sewing machines with top drop-in bobbins. However, in my opinion, the pros outweigh the cons of this machine Also, I love the blue accents.
They just make the machine appear modern, trendy and elegant. The stitch selection is great, while the fully electronic functionality is appealing to users who don’t prefer computerized units.

First Thoughts
A lot of advances have been made in sewing units over the years. And most of those advances have two purposes. The first is to make sewing more enjoyable.
The second is to keep the thread from jamming and breaking while working. Singer 2263 is a mechanical sewing machine. However, it includes automatic features.
This model has a horizontal thread delivery and an automatic needle threader. What I don’t like about 2263 is the front-loading bobbin system. It’s extremely hard to use.
If you were learning how to sew on a traditional old-fashioned machine, the front-loading bobbin won’t be an issue for you. However, it’s frustrating for newbies to learn.
A small mistake in loading the bobbin, inserting the bobbin or threading the bobbin, and you’re probably going to spend more time repairing thread jams instead of working.
Also, front-loading bobbins come with a few advantages which explain why companies keep on making this type of sewing machines.
If you take on sewing projects that require to change thread types or thread colours mid-stream in a row of stitches, you can’t accomplish that on a top-loading bobbin without taking down your project because the bobbin case is right under the needle plate.
A top-loading bobbin performs ideally for most types of sewing. It’s also easier to learn for newbies. This sewing machine comes with 23-built-in stitches along with a 4-step buttonhole.
Most sewing machines that make buttonholes have a 4-step or a 1-step buttonhole. A 4-step buttonhole style needs more manual involvement to complete.
It splits the buttonhole down into 4 sections – 2 parallel, long rows of thread for the sides and 2 parallel, shorter rows of thread for the ends of the buttonhole.
To make a 4-step buttonhole, you pick the stitch for one side, stitch it, pick the stitch for an end, stitch it, and then pick the stitch for the last end and stitch it.
The fabric doesn’t need to be moved around. Simply control the length of your patterns and instruct the unit which section of your buttonhole you’re taking on next.
The good thing about a 4-step buttonhole is that you can create buttonholes of different sizes with ease. 2263 has adjustable stitch width to 5mm and adjustable stitch length to 4mm.
Adjusting the dimensions is made by utilizing two dials situated at the top right of the unit. However, not all patterns can be customized which is normal but the zigzag and straight can.
There’s a great variation of overedge patterns for creating sturdy seams and stretch patterns for dealing with various types of fabrics. Singer 2263 is suitable for basic and heavy-duty tasks.
However, make sure to use the right needle. 2263 can pass through multiple layers of canvas and denim with great ease. Let’s take a closer look at the features of this model.
Singer Simple 2263 Review
The Singer Simple 2263 is a mechanical, beginner-friendly sewing machine. At first glance, it looks like it includes all the features beginners will look for in a sewing machine.
It’s loaded with 23 patterns including 5 stretch stitches, 11 decorative stitches, 6 basic stitches, and a 4-step buttonhole. The motor is powerful. It will sew through dense fabrics.
The patterns are presented on the dial in front of your unit. The stitch length adjustments are displayed on a different dial. There’s also an automatic needle threader which is great.
There’s also a reverse stitch lever and a manual thread cutter. 2263 includes 3 snap-on presser feet and an extra-high presser foot functionality for dense layers.
The best part? You can take off the extension arm and utilize your machine for free-arm sewing. 2263 is a portable sewing machine. It’s packed with a built-in handle and LED light.
However, the light isn’t so bright. I’m a big fan of good lighting and this sewing machine doesn’t respond to my needs in this aspect. But it’s not a deal-breaker, at least not for me!
Just like all Singer sewing units, Simple 2263 is covered by a 25-year limited warranty. Let’s take a closer look at some of the key features that make this sewing machine special.
97 Stitch Applications
A stitch application represents a certain sewing method that you can perform with the desired pattern. It’s all the different things you can make with your sewing machine.
Online Owner’s Class
The online owner’s class helps you learn the basics of your sewing machine. It teaches you how to select a stitch, how to thread your machine properly, how to change a needle, etc.
Singer Sewing Assistant App
Utilize this application to get familiar with the parts of your sewing machine, how to install your machine to start working including threading the top of the unit along with the bobbin.
23 Built-In Stitches
The Singer Simple 2263 sewing machine comes with a wide selection of stitches. It has 24 inbuilt stitches (decorative stitches, basic stitches, utility stitches, etc).
4-Step Buttonhole
This beginner-friendly sewing machine allows you to make buttonholes in 4 steps. They’re presented on the stitch selector dial.
Automatic Needle Threader
Automatic features such as this one allow people with low vision like me to enjoy effortless threading. It saves you time and eliminates eye strain.
Front-Loading Bobbin
As I already stated at the start of this Singer Simple 2263 review, I’m not a big fan of the front-loading bobbin. It can be hard to learn for beginners which can be a deal-breaker for some people.
Darning Plate
Put the darning plate into place over your sewing machine’s feed teeth which stop the feed teeth from coming in touch with the material. Utilize this for free-motion stitching like monograms, stipple quilting, and even for stitching on buttons.
Easy Stitch Selection Dial
The built-in stitch patterns are presented on the stitch selector dial. Just rotate the dial to pick the stitch you want to use.
Adjustable Stitch Length and Width
Change the look of your stitches by decreasing or increasing the distance between stitches. You can use this option for different stitch methods like basting, applique, etc.
The width is also adjustable. The size of the pattern from left to right is customizable. You can make your stitch wider or narrower as you wish. 5mm is the max stitch width.
Reverse Sewing
This sewing machine allows reverse sewing. You can stitch in reverse which is often performed to fasten a seam at the end and the start to stop untangling.
Sturdy Construction
2263 is enriched with a heavy-duty metal frame. This adds to the durability and stability of the machine. It’s made to last. Therefore, it will serve you for years!
LED Lighting
I always pay attention to the lighting in sewing machines. I prefer working at night in a dark atmosphere so light is important to me. I wasn’t impressed by the light in this unit.
It’s a long-lasting LED lighting that illuminates the workspace and remains cool to the touch. However, it needs improvement. Good lighting can also help you prevent mistakes.
Free Arm
You can remove the detachable storage compartment and get to the free arm. This option is perfect for sewing trouser hems, sleeve cuffs, and other tubular or smaller projects.
Snap-On Presser Feet
The presser feet can be detached and attached when required for different sewing methods super easily which is great for beginners. I just love snap-on presser feet.
Extra High Presser Foot Lifter
The presser foot has an extra high point available to handle dense fabrics making this model suitable for both basic and heavy-duty sewing projects.
Variable Needle Positions
Customize the position of needle as preferred for different sewing methods like piping insertion, zipper application, edge stitching, topstitching, etc.
Bobbin Class (15 Transparent)
This model uses bobbin class 15 transparent. It’s highly recommended to use Inspira or Singer branded bobbins for the best results. Using other bobbins may cause damage or issues.
Singer Simple 2263 Pros and Cons
The Singer Simple 2263 sewing machine provides a wide selection of stitch patterns for stitching a range of fabric types. You can select from 23 different stitch patterns.
The best part? They can be adjusted thanks to the adjustable stitch length for stitching seams, applique, etc. The stitch width is customizable as well so you can further adjust stitches.
Create buttonholes in 4 simple steps whether you want to make a dress, craft a modern tote, and stitch up a pillow. This sewing machine comes with a bunch of free accessories.
There’s also a free arm which makes it easy to hem trousers or other small items like children’s clothing. If you’re looking for a long-lasting sewing machine, look no further than 2263.
This sewing machine is made to last. If you’re a beginner and you feel like you need help, you can rely on the Singer sewing assistance app along with the online owner’s class video.
As you can notice, Simple 2263 is user-friendly, feature-rich and versatile. However, let’s summarize the main pros and cons of this workhorse before you make a final decision.
Pros
- Compact, user-friendly and portable
- Beginner-friendly and budget-friendly
- Packs removable storage and free accessories
- The internal frame is created of metal
- A wide selection of sewing stitches
Cons

How to Use Singer Simple 2263?
The build quality of this 2263 appears decent. It includes all the basic patterns a beginner needs. One of the things I like the most about this sewing machine is the bobbin winder.
Instead of plastic, it’s made of metal. The machine is lightweight. Therefore, it’s easy to carry around. It’s one of those sewing machines that delivers smooth operation and flawless results.
It features a responsive foot pedal and an automatic needle threader. Although the needle threader is a bit tricky, it makes threading a breeze. It also saves you time and prevents eye strain.
If you’re looking for a heavy-duty sewing machine with sturdy construction, look no further than 2263. It features a heavy-duty metal frame which adds to the durability of the unit.
To start your new sewing buddy, you need to plug your power cord in the power outlet. Then, plug your foot control in your sewing machine. Turn the on/off button.
Once you do this, the LED light over the needle should turn on. I always suggest cranking the handwheel towards yourself before you start to make sure that the needle is in the right place.
When you need to change the needle, turn off your unit. Cover your needle plate when you’re loosening up your needle holder.
Always keep the needle with your hand because needles are prone to sliding out and getting stuck in the sewing machine. If you’re a beginner, apply these tips and you will be fine!
Although this sewing machine comes with an automatic needle threader, threading can be a struggle for some people, especially beginners. Correct threading is important. Otherwise, the stitches won’t remain neat, tight, and secure after you complete your seams.
Threading the bobbin can also be difficult for beginners. However, after a few times, you will become an expert at this process. Firstly, take out your bobbin from the bobbin case.
Put the thread on the spool and put the spool pin holder to fasten the thread. You can pick between the auxiliary spool pin and main spool pin.
Then, proceed the thread from the spool to the bobbin. And proceed one end of the thread through any hole on the bobbin rim. Put the bobbin on your bobbin winder on top of your sewing machine and press it until you feel and hear that the bobbin clicks into place.
Press on the foot controller and keep it as long as you’re not pleased with the amount of thread on your bobbin. Slice the end of your thread, take off the bobbin from the pin.
That’s it. Threading this sewing machine is simpler. Follow the guides and you will be fine. Almost every Singer sewing machine includes a built-in needle threader for effortless threading.
You can also create buttonholes on this sewing machine. However, it’s a little more complicated than on other Singer machines. On this unit, buttonholes are made in 4 steps.
This requires extra manual involvement. However, it’s still simple. If you’re a newbie, you will find a few features helpful such as the guidelines on the buttonhole foot presser and the stitch selector dial.
Meaning, you will make 2 parallel, long rows on sides of your buttonhole and 2 parallel, shorter rows to secure and end the long ones.
To make a buttonhole, pick the stitch on the dial for the first long side. Then, stitch it. Pick your stitch on the dial for an end and stitch it. Pick the stitch on the dial for the other long side and stitch it. After, pick the stitch on the dial for the end, stitch it. Your buttonhole is completed and secure.
Once you complete your buttonhole, you can stitch up the button with this unit too. Remove the presser foot and decrease the feed teeth to stop your material from getting in touch with the feeding teeth. This unit doesn’t include a lever for decreasing the feed teeth but there’s a darning plate.
Install the sewing button presser foot. Pick the zigzag pattern. Set the length to zero and width between 3 and 6. Then, place your needle in. It’s supposed to be in the centre position.
Look over the width with cranking your handwheel to notice if the needle runs smoothly via both holes. Fasten the button on a place when picking the straight stitch and aligning the needle in one side. Make a couple of stitches in the spot.
How to Thread Singer Simple 2263?
Threading this sewing machine is super easy thanks to the automatic needle threader. It enables simple and effortless threading. It also saves you time and eliminates eye strain.
How to Oil Singer Simple 2263?
Remove the hook cover and the hook. Clean with a soft cloth and oil the parts. Until your hook race is in the left spot, spin the handwheel. Use a professional sewing machine oil.
Singer Simple 2263 Accessories
The Singer Simple 2263 sewing machine provides a wide selection of stitch patterns for sewing different fabrics. You can choose from 97 stitch applications.
Making buttonholes is super easy! However, what I like most about this sewing unit are free accessories. You will find the basic accessories in your storage compartment.
